What embedded-network metering involves

An embedded network normally has a connection to the electricity grid through a master meter and private meters that measure electricity used by individual lots, tenants or internal loads. A useful metering scope is more than supplying devices. It should identify every circuit and tenancy, confirm meter suitability, establish communications, record configuration, validate readings and define how the data will be used.

PKTR Energy supports this technical layer for commercial buildings, shopping centres, strata properties, apartment buildings and other multi-tenant sites across Western Australia.

What PKTR can deliver

  • Existing-meter and communications assessment.
  • Meter schedules, tenancy mapping and single-line information.
  • Revenue-capable direct-connected or current-transformer metering where appropriate.
  • Time-of-use, ratio, display and communications configuration.
  • Gateway, modem and data-logger integration.
  • Commissioning, point-to-point validation and exception checks.
  • Interval-data exports or integration for an appointed billing or energy platform.
  • Technical documentation suitable for operational handover.

Metering, billing and operation are different responsibilities

The company installing or configuring meters is not automatically the entity responsible for tariffs, invoices, payments, hardship procedures, complaints or operation of the electricity service. Those responsibilities must be assigned expressly. PKTR can prepare and validate the metering and data layer and coordinate with the property owner, electrical contractor, billing provider and prospective AES provider.

A practical starting assessment

Start with the latest single-line diagram, retailer bills, a tenancy or lot schedule, meter register, photographs of the switchboards, details of any existing modem or gateway, and examples of current tenant bills. PKTR can then identify gaps, confirm the required field verification and prepare a staged implementation plan.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Does PKTR supply and program electricity meters?

PKTR can scope, supply, program, commission and validate compatible metering and communications equipment, subject to an agreed project scope.

Can existing meters be retained?

Sometimes. The answer depends on meter accuracy, communications capability, condition, circuit mapping, data access and the intended billing or monitoring use.

Does PKTR issue tenant electricity bills?

PKTR focuses on engineering, metering, communications and data integration. Billing responsibilities must be assigned to the property, network operator or appointed billing provider unless a separate service is agreed.
